This cadet program provides an opportunity for junior and senior high school students to explore a career in the emergency services field with particular emphasis on developing some fundamental skills in the fire and emergency medical fields. In addition to studying fire science and emergency medicine, the cadets are taught such skills as team building, decision-making, and problem solving. This is a hands-on course and is physically demanding. The cadets participate in training fires and are instructed in first aid and CPR.

Students may earn two high school credits per year. Successful completion of the program, with a grade of "B" or better, may result in college credit through Lower Columbia College in Longview, Washington.

Participating schools may have the option to award .5 PE credit ONLY after successful completion of the two-year program.

• Complete the Skills Center Application, Fire Cadet Application (following page), Work History, and essay.
• Applicants will take a written test along with an oral interview at student orientation.
• Applicants must pass a drug screening test (drug screening is at student's expense), pass a sports physical (provided at student's expense), and pay a $50 lab fee.
• Juniors and seniors only (seniors given preference) who indicate a career interest in firefighting, 911 dispatching, fire prevention or arson investigation. Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA.
• Applicants must provide their own transportation to the off-campus training facility.
